Mission

To identify ways of improving the efficiency of conversion of feed into live weight in growing pigs. This includes the improvement in the quality and availability of feeds, the identification of novel feeds, methods of feeding and the manipulation of the physiology of the growing animal to improve the conversion of nutrients in commercially important carcass tissues. Our mission is also focussed on improving the reproductive efficiency of the national herd.

Research Program

The key research programs focus on plant breeding, optimising feed formulation and feeding regimes and on reproductive efficiency.

Education

CSU expect to enrol 2PhD students and 5-6 honours project students from within the Animal Science degree program when they reach the 4 th year of their undergraduate training program. These students will participate in CRC postgraduate training programs and will be encouraged to present the results of their research at the Australian Pig Science Association biennial conference and postgraduate training workshops. Opportunities for travel to international conferences will also arise as their studies progress.
