sustainability, resource use, rural communities, social development,
landcare, water and vegetation reform and environmental policy have in
common?
They will all be
discussed at the “Community and
Catchments”
Conference on
Thursday 18 August 2005 at Wagga Wagga Campus, Charles Sturt University.
This free,
one-day conference will highlight the wide range of applied social
research on land water and society being conducted in the Murray-Darling
Basin, by the Institute for Land,
Water and Society.
This conference is being held preceding the 5th NSW Landcare/Catchment
Management Forum in Wagga.
The conference is
aimed at:
· regional
land managers,
-
conservation
planners,
-
catchment
managers, and
-
everyone
interested in community conservation and sustainable land management
in the Murray-Darling Basin.
-
people from
northern Victoria and central and western NSW are especially invited
to attend.
More than a dozen
presenters including Professor Margaret Alston, Professor Allan Curtis,
Associate-Professor Ian Gray and Dr Catherine Allan will provide
informative talks on a variety of topics including:

Implementing
regional scale adaptive management

Understanding the
why and how of community engagement,
-
What is social
capital and is it really important,
-
Improving
governance arrangements for regional catchment management,
-
Evaluating
catchments scale programs and projects
