The Australian Society of Animal Production conference
The E H Graham Centre supports the endeavours of its staff and student members through a travel grant scheme. One of this year's successful applicants was Charles Sturt University Honours student and holder of an E H Graham Centre Honours scholarship, Matthew Lieschke. Matthew attended the 26th Biennial Australian Society of Animal Production conference held in Perth.
The aim of the conference was to discuss issues facing animal production, present current research findings and examine the practical implications of applied research. The conference provided Matthew an opportunity to present preliminary results on his Honours research trial. Matthew commented that the opportunity to present ‘was a challenging and invaluable experience' that stimulated discussion and provided a means of establishing valuable contacts in industry and research.
The conference covered a broad range of animal production topics including sheep and cattle nutrition and production, pasture management and grazing systems, genetics, meat science and animal welfare. The conference also included a sheep innovation field day at ‘The Grange'. The displays included the new Australian Wool Industry ‘ShearEzi®' shearing method, future mulesing alternatives and remote sensing methods for estimating pasture growth.
