E H Graham Centre PhD Top-Up Award - call for applicants
The E H Graham Centre for Agricultural Innovation is seeking high quality students for its 2006 PhD top-up award. The award is part of the Graham Centre Students Awards Scheme which also supports Honours students and Internships.
Information on the Top-Up Award is provided below or can be downloaded here. The application form and instructions can be downloaded here. The application form must include a project outline and be submitted with a copy of the applicant's academic record and curriculum vitae. Prior to submission students should discuss their application with their intended supervisor(s).

PhD TOP-UP AWARD
INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS & SUPERVISORS
Objective
The objective of the Graham Centre's PhD Top-Up Awards Scheme is to reward high quality students undertaking PhD studies at Charles Sturt University and encourage participation in the Centre.
Target Students
The scheme is primarily aimed at excellent students who are commencing their PhD studies at Charles Sturt University in 2006 and who have a project broadly aligned with the objectives of the E H Graham Centre for Agricultural Innovation.
Selection Criteria
The following criteria will be used for the assessment of applicants and their projects seeking funding from the E H Graham Centre for Agricultural Innovation via the PhD "top-up" mechanism.
Supervision
- Joint supervision by both Charles Sturt University and NSW Department of Primary Industries staff is desirable, where appropriate personnel are available;
- At least one supervisor must be a member of the Graham Centre;
- The principal supervisor must have a clear, successful track record of supervision of students.
Project
- The project must be allied with the broad aims of the Centre;
- Projects will be assessed on the merit of the project and the quality of the student;
- Suitable resources must be available within the NSW Department of Primary Industries and/or Charles Sturt University to support the research;
- The contribution of the Centre must be duly acknowledged in all theses, presentations and papers arising from the research.
Student
- The student must be in receipt of a scholarship offer to undertake a PhD at Charles Sturt University .
- Students who have already commenced their PhD studies (as at March 2005) will be ineligible for a PhD Top-Up Award through the Centre.
- Students who are currently in receipt of top-up (or supplementary) funding from any other source are ineligible to apply for this award.
- Applicants will be ranked according to the system used by Charles Sturt University when allocating PhD scholarships. Consideration of Points 1 and 2 above may also be used when allocating scholarships.
Funds
$5,000 will be allocated as a tax-free stipend and will be paid as part of the regular payments to the student through the University.
Measure of Success
The success of the scheme will be measured initially by the calibre of students attracted and then by the number of graduands and the scientific publications arising from the project which are attributed to the Centre.
