Career Brief
Dr Holloway graduated with a BSc (Hons) from University of New England before undertaking PhD studies in Zoology, also through University of New England .
On completion of PhD requirements in 1999, Dr Holloway was employed as a professional officer with University of New South Wales . Research during this time involved the ecophysiology of large marsupials (kangaroos and bettongs), and, in a separate project, Christmas Island crabs. These projects investigated how native Australian species have adapted to their environment.
Dr Holloway joined NSW Agriculture (now Industry & Investment NSW) at Wagga Wagga Agricultural Institute in 2002 as a Research Entomologist. Since then her research has focussed on the identification and management strategies to avoid chemical resistance in stored grain insects, and integrated pest management of insects in broadacre field crops.
Research
Dr Holloway is research leader for the following projects:
- Resistance management of stored grain insects in the southern region (National Plant Biosecurity CRC)
- Assessment of IPM strategies to control insects in rotational farming systems of the southern region (GRDC)
Dr Holloway is also a collaborative researcher in the following projects:
- Phosphine fumigation of cool grain (QDPI&F and National Plant Biosecurity CRC)
- Fumigation protocols to control strong phosphine resistant flat grain beetle, Cryptolestes ferrugineus (Stephens) (QDPI&F and National Plant Biosecurity CRC)
Professional Links
- Member of National Working Party on Grain Protection (since 2002)
- Member of the National Invertebrate Pest Initiative (since 2005)
Interests
- Beneficial insects
- Integrated pest management
