Career Brief
Professor Wolfe graduated with a BScAgr and MScAgr from the University of Sydney. He was awarded a PhD from University of New England for his investigations of grass-clover relationships in relation to the incidence and control of cattle bloat.
Professor Wolfe worked with NSW Agriculture for 24 years, first as a research agronomist in pasture and crop agronomy research. He became Director of Research at Agricultural Research Institute at Wagga in 1981, before being appointed Regional Director of Research for the New England, Hunter and Metropolitan Region at Tamworth.
Professor Wolfe joined the staff of Charles Sturt University at Wagga as Professor of Agriculture and Head, School of Agriculture in 1990. Until his retirement in 2001 Professor Wolfe was involved, and also lectured in, the disciplines of agronomy and agricultural systems. He served as course coordinator of the BAppSc (Agriculture) course from 1997 to 2001.
Research and Teaching
Since retirement, Professor Wolfe has developed the interest of students in CSU's Study Abroad program and in international work experience. He continues to travel, talk and write professionally, recently completing a review of crop-livestock interactions in world farming systems.
Professor Wolfe continues to be involved in CSU teaching activities, giving occasional guest lectures in AHT102 Introduction to Agricultural and Horticultural Systems and AHT401 Agricultural Systems. He participates with CSU and NSW DPI colleagues in agricultural research projects and consultancies in North Korea (ACIAR) and Eritrea (DAFF).
From time to time, he undertakes consultancy projects and is a contract product reviewer and committee member for the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority. He is an active member of the ACT and southern NSW branch of the Australian Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology and of a committee formed to host the International grassland Conference in southern Australia in 2013.
