Project
Traditional milk marketing domestic supply chains and dairy policy environment in Pakistan
Summary
My research topic is part of Australian government’s ongoing dairy sector assistance to Pakistan.
I aim to evaluate the local milk marketing channels by doing a value chain analysis to understand the physical and financial features of local milk supply chains. The main focus is small scale semi-subsistence dairy farmers.
I will analyse the farm survey data collected by the ongoing dairy project to assess the profitability of these partner farmer communities.
The research will then be linked to broader issues affecting the industry as a whole such as the current regulatory and policy environment at the various tiers of the government. This will assist in identifying possible barriers to increasing commercial sales of milk and the development of a competitive dairy industry in Pakistan.
An examination of Australia’s transition to a commercially focused industry will help this analysis. The aim is to implement interventions coming from this research that add value or improve efficiency of the milk value chains in Pakistan.
