Project
Breeding Dairy Animals in Pakistan: Modifying selection and analysis for a more profitable future.
Summary
One of the key issues with progeny testing programs for dairy animals in developing countries is that there is minimal data recording carried out. Hence, there is little data available to be used for analyses to determine the genetically superior animals that could be used for selective breeding. In this research project we aim to develop a simple method of herd recording and subsequent analysis that could be utilised as an effective progeny testing tool in the difficult circumstances of any developing country. With these outputs we aim to provide a framework for breed improvement to increase farm profitability to benefit small holder dairy farmers.
