Project

The development of a simulation model to analyse the productivity and financial viability of dairy farms

Summary

Computer simulation is an actual system model, which is largely unaffected by experimental conditions, time and space constraints, and is of great flexibility. Very few models have been developed in developing countries to capture smallholders’ key process and interaction of various farming components. The objective of the present research is to describe technologies for sustainable dairy production in Pakistan that may help to ensure their long term success. The current studies aim to develop a computer simulation model: integrated analysis tool (IAT) which uses the local agricultural, livestock, environmental, and social information collected in Pakistan to produce more genuine and acceptable outputs. This simulation model is a predictive tool being developed for adoption in the Pakistani dairy production system which could forecast 10 years farm production that include animals production, crops production, labour, cost, and income etc. The IAT would be integrated with three different models - crop model, animal growth model, and smallholder enterprise economic model. The tool will be used for scenario analysis and impact assessment that would help in dissemination and promoting adoption of interventions and management packages for smallholder farmers.
