Project
Isolation and characterisation of proteins from Australian canola varieties
Career brief
Mr Tan studied in BSc (Food Technology) with honours at University Sains Malaysia (USM). At the same time, he worked as casual research assistant in the School of Industrial Technology (Food Department) and did his industrial placement with Charles Sturt University’s Cheese Factory, Wagga Wagga, in 2005. After completing the BSc degree in 2006, Mr Tan joined the USM Food Department as full time research assistant. The main task was involved in the preliminary study of fish gelatin extraction and characterization.
In 2007, Mr Tan furthered his study in MSc (Food Management) at Manchester Metropolitan University, UK, before he was awarded Graham Centre Research Scholarship which allowed him to undertake PhD study at Charles Sturt University. He is currently studying the isolation and characterisation of proteins from Australian canola varieties, focusing on the protein profile and food functional properties. This research received grant-aided support from the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC).
