ILWS, IC WATER and the Faculty of Science have taken preliminary steps in establishing a formal alliance with researchers in Hohai University, China. Areas of interest for research collaboration include water engineering and the ecological implications and socio economic aspects of water management. Agreements are already in place as follows:-
This proposal is currently under development. It is intended that this alliance between CSU-ILWS and the Global Wetland Consortium through HOORC will undertake specific activities to promote wetland-related science and policy development; the proposal includes an emphasis on scientific outputs and outcomes.
It will initially focus on the wetland and river ecologists at ILWS, but will provide a base for further participation by economic and social scientists; it is a networking proposal with links to iconic large wetlands as well as prestigious institutions in other continents; it will provide a base to support CSU’s links with other universities, such as Hohai University, China.
This proposal is currently under development. The proposed alliance will develop international partnerships for socio-historical research in transport and climate change. The proposal is to form a network involving Australian, UK, European and North American researchers, with links to industry, to identify strategic gaps in research and obtain funding to support ongoing research. The first step will be a series of three multidisciplinary workshops in the UK and one in Australia to bring together established researchers, policy analysts and industry representatives from Europe and Australia. Professor Colin Divall, University of York has obtained funding to support the first workshop in the series at York late in 2009.
