Eddie is a Professor in applied economics and quantitative methods. Eddie's general expertise is applied econometrics with an emphasis on modelling markets for agricultural products. The notion of market failure and the operation of markets with imperfect competition is a particular focus of some of his research.

Specific projects with this emphasis include:

modelling disequilibrium markets for tobacco leaf and raw wool, explaining wine grape prices in disequilibrium, bargaining in the coking coal trade, and examining the role that bargaining cooperatives may play in countervailing market power. Additionally, Eddie has cooperated with numerous other researchers in pursuing joint research where Eddie provides the econometric and statistical expertise. Specific projects include: the demand for eggs, Australia 's bilateral aid allocation, modelling the inefficiency of manufacturing firms, and marketing and HRM applications of structural equation modelling. As an example of the impact of Eddie's publications, his research on wine pricing was among the first to apply hedonic pricing methods to wine products.

Numerous papers have emerged employing the same framework citing his research as a seminal work, e.g., studies on wines from Bordeaux , Burgundy , Spain , Italy , United States , Germany , and other studies for Australia . Based on this research Eddie has developed the Australian Wine Price Calculator, a webbased tool available at ( http://csusap.csu.edu.au/~eoczkows/home.htm ), which allows consumers to identify over and under priced wines. Eddie has published numerous papers in journals such as the Economic Record, Economic Letters, the Journal of Agricultural Economics , Journal of Development Economics , Agricultural Economics and the International Journal of Research in Marketing .

Eddie has received external grant funding from organisations such as RIRDC, NCVER and the NSW OFT, and previously was the codirector of the Australian Centre for Cooperative Research and Development. Eddie has conducted various consultancies for local businesses and regional councils and is a member of the Economic Society of Australia.
