Rural voice

Prof Marg Alston's appointment by the federal Government to speak at the 2008 meeting of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women was covered in the Border Mail , Nov 24. She also featured on Radio ABC Riverina re the need to create a vision for rural Australia on Nov 27.

Climate Change Effects on Health

Prof Kevin Parton's joint research into the effects of climate change on health in rural and regional Australian generated a lot of national and international media attention in the last few months. Dr Skye Wassens and her latest frog research project was featured on WIN TV Albury on Nov 8, in The Land , Dec 6, and The Weekly Times, Dec 12.

Trust in business to business relationships

"Workshop to focus on business trust" appeared on the page 5 of the Western Advocate Nov 21 highlighting David Dowell's Doctorial Workshop the following day.

International forestry research

Dr Digby Race was interviewed about the research by ILWS and partners on community forestry in Indonesia and the link to discussions at the UN Climate Change Conference held in Bali (3-14 December) about the need to arrest deforestation on ABC National Radio News Dec 7 and ABC Goulburn Murray Dec 12.

An overview of research being undertaken by Bugi Sumirat and Viengxay Photakoun in Indonesia and Laos, respectively, together with their supervisors - Drs Joanne Millar and Digby Race. Was in the Border Mail , Dec 8.

An article about research by Dr Digby Race, Hugh Stewart, Bugi Sumirat and their international colleagues relating to deforestation, community forestry and its link to international concerns about climate change appeared in the Border Mail , Dec 12.

Bonegilla Migrant Centre

Dr Bruce Pennay spoke on ABC Radio National twice, and was interviewed by the Border Mail to explain why the former Bonegilla Migrant Reception Centre had been placed on the National Heritage List on Dec 8.

Debra da Silvia appeared on both Prime and WIN news talking about the lack of accountants in inland Australia on Dec 12.

Hauling grain

A/Prof Ian Gray called for new rail operators to haul grain on ABC Radio NSW Country Hour on Dec 14, and then on again on ABC National and ABC Rural Online on Dec 14.

Mistletoe research

A/Prof David Watson's research on mistletoe featured in a story in the National Geographic News on Dec 24 and was picked up by the Thaindian News and Asian News International the following day.

New appointment

Prof Nick Klomp's appointment as the new dean of CSUs Faculty of Science was featured in the Central Western Daily , on 2BS, in the Border Mail on Jan 8, and in Campus Review on Jan 15. He also spoke with Radio ABC National, 2GZ Orange and ABC Riverina about the proposed government review of drought funding on Jan 9, and ABC Rural News the next day. This story was also picked up by the North Queensland Register, The Land, Farm Weekly, Stock and Land, and Stock Journal , Jan 10 and various other rural newspapers.
