Collaboration
Linkages across Research Groups and Centres
There are strong linkages across research groups within the proposed CIH structure, and also between the topics of primary interest to the CIH and those of interest to other research centres of the University. Strong, transdisciplinary programs of research are developing, on this basis.
In particular, the four research groups of the CIH are united by a common strong focus on the cross-cutting themes of the Centre:
- Health in inland contexts and communities
- Health of priority groups in this context, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people but also groups with particular needs at points in time, for example farmers and their families in the current drought circumstances or particular humanitarian immigrant (refugee) groups settling in inland communities, as world events unfold
- Principles of comprehensive primary health care
These cross-cutting themes bring together researchers from all research groups at regular intervals for critical discussion. They also generate essential collaborative research. Importantly, the principles of comprehensive primary health care provide a uniting framework within which each research group plays an important role in pursuing the CIH primary mission of enhancing the health of inland communities through research and development.
Within CSU, the CIH is linking with CSU's research centres for Land, Water and Society, Education and Professional Practice, International Water concerns, Agricultural Innovation, and more, in order to address issues related to human health which are associated with each of these fields of research. It is perhaps at this intersection between key CSU areas of expertise (a rather unique combination of expertise) that the most significant role in health and social research exists for CSU, and we are actively building research in these areas, with a focus on inland communities and landscapes.
Recent external collaborators and funding sources (Australian)
Current collaborative research projects and initiatives are underway or in an advanced stage of collaborative planning between CIH key researchers and researchers from a wide range of international, national, state and local agencies, organisations and universities. At the local level, the Centre and its researchers are purposefully building relationships and research links with specific inland communities, with Area health Services, with indigenous communities, and with local non-government organisations. At the State, National and International levels, collaborative research has been undertaken or is being planned with researchers, funding agencies or other representatives from Australian and International organisations.
