Research Centres
Charles Sturt University has established designated Research Centres representing concentrations of research expertise that align with CSUs mission. Centres are expected to demonstrate sustained success in an area of research that supports the strategic direction and key performance indicators of the University. Within each Centre, research activities are arranged around a number of theme areas under which collaboration and interdisciplinary research is encouraged.
Membership draws from staff across the Faculties of CSU and includes research higher degree candidates.
- Up to 60 Research Centre Fellowships are available annually to support intensive research activity that aligns with Research Centre Priorities. Researchers should contact their Centre for details.
- HDR student candidates are considered for enrolment into CSU's designated Areas of Research Strength

| Centre for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics (CAPPE) | In partnership with the University of Melbourne and the Australian National University, CAPPE conducts path-breaking research, provides policy input and promotes community discussion and professional dialogue in relation to critical issues within the public and political domain. |

| The EH Graham Centre for Agricultural Innovation | Is a collaborative alliance between Charles Sturt University and the NSW Department of Primary Industry (DPI). The Centre aims to address the critical challenges currently facing the agriculture industries of Australia, such as declining rural profits and changing demography, uncertainty due to climate change and global warming, declining soil health and soil erosion, water cost and quality, the future of pesticides, bio-security, the GM and organic debate, community concerns about the environment, animal health and rights, changing markets and globalisation, changing funding structures and increasing regulation. | Deirdre Lemerle Phone: 02 6938 1667 |
| Institute for Land, Water and Society (ILWS) | Was established in 2005 with the aim of undertaking internationally recognised research in social and environmental sustainability that enhances the livelihoods and lifestyles of people in rural and regional Australia. It builds on the recognised strengths in social and environmental research of the pre-existing Centre for Rural Social Research and the Johnstone Centre for Research in Natural Resources and Society. | National Wine and Grape Industry Centre (NWGIC) | Integrates the viticulture and wine science expertise of staff from Charles Sturt University and NSW Department of Primary Industry, co-located at the Ron Potter Centre in Wagga Wagga, NSW. The Centre is funded by the University, the Department and the NSW Wine Industry Association. A Commercial winery, vineyard and cheese factory support the University's programs in food science, wine science and viticulture. Principle research activities include viticulture, wine flavour and phenolic components, expert systems in viticulture, vine pathology, wine microbiology and dairy technology. |

Traditionally theology has been undertaken within a narrow ecclesial environment ignoring the wider contexts. | Research Institute for Professional Practice, Learning and Education(RIPPLE) | Is a multidisciplinary research centre that conducts high-quality applied research and consultation in the field of professional practice. | Was established in 2007 to boost policing and security research capacity in Australia amid the growing complexity and internationalisation and transnational crime in the post 9/11 environment. CEPS Conducts path-breaking research, provides policy input and promotes community discussion and professional dialogue in relation to critical issues within the public and political domain. |

| CRC for Cotton Catchment Communities | The mission is to undertake collaborative research, education and commercialisation activities to provide innovative knowledge that is adopted for the benefit of the Australian Cotton Industry, Regional Communities and the Nation. |

| CRC for High Integrity Australian Pork | To identify ways of improving the efficiency of conversion of feed into live weight in growing pigs. This includes the improvement in the quality and availability of feeds, the identification of novel feeds, methods of feeding and the manipulation of the physiology of the growing animal to improve the conversion of nutrients in commercially important carcass tissues.
