Education and Courses

The School of Agriculture and Wine Sciences was formed at the beginning of 2008 by bringing together staff from the School of Agriculture and the School of Wine & Food Sciences who specialised in the fields of Food Science, Wine Science and Viticulture.

Through Charles Sturt University, the NWGIC has established a reputation for providing quality higher education to the Australian wine industry.

The School of Agriculture and Wine Sciences runs coursesĀ in Wine Science, Viticulture, Winegrowing, and it also runs Post Graduate Degrees. The school also conducts research in winemaking, wine science, viticulture, food microbiology and biotechnology, chemistry, food processing, product development and quality management. Courses of study lead to the award of undergraduate and postgraduate university degrees, diplomas and certificates. Most courses are offered by both internal (full time) and external (distance education) modes and are well supported through and on-campus commercial winery and vineyard, commercial cheese factory and pilot food plant.

Postgraduate programs in viticulture and oenology leading to the award of a master's degree or PhD degree are also available. Industry support for regional and/or national projects is available for selected projects.

NWGIC graduates are in high demand in the food and wine industry in Australia and around the world.
