International Links for 2008
- Professor Thomas Henick-Kling and Dr Bruno Holzapfel attended the International Enology Symposium in Trier, Germany, in April 2008 at which approximately 100 researchers and wine industry members from Europe, the USA, and Australia met and discussed a range of oenology and viticulture topics.
- Professor Thomas Henick-Kling visited the Research Institute Geisenheim in April 2008 to meet with a prospective graduate student and for review of current and prospective collaborative research projects and undergraduate student exchange with Professor Doris Rauhut, Professor Ernst Rühl, Professor Hans Schultz, and Professor Otmar Löhnertz.
- Ms Ni-orn Chomsri, a graduate student from the Research Institute Geisenheim, visited with Dr Melanie Weckert in May 2008.
- Associate Professor Greg Jones, from the University of Southern Oregon, visited in May 2008 for lectures and talks on future collaborative work on vineyard climate modelling. Two joint projects have been outlined with Dr Ron Hutton and Dr Andrew Hall continuing to work with Associate Professor Jones.
- Professor Thomas Henick-Kling attended the ASEV 59th Annual Meeting at Portland, US in June 2008. While he was over in the US he set up a research collaboration with the Washington State University (WSU) - Professor Henick-Kling visited the different WSU sites and met with a number of researchers.
- Three French visiting students will be working at the Centre in April - August 2008 with Dr Paul Prenzler, Dr Andrew Hall, and Dr Bruno Holzapfel.
- Mr Ed Lavin, Cornell University, USA visited in August 2008 to install GCO system and train NWGIC researchers on use of GCO. Planned joint research projects and exchange of staff and graduate students. Ms Laure Rebiere will visit the laboratory of Prof Terry Acree and Mr Ed Lavin in January 2009 for collaborative work on wine aroma impact compounds. Collaboration with Prof Henick-Kling, Dr Andrew Clark, Dr Danielle Ryan, Dr Anthony Saliba.
- Mr Jochen Vestner, visiting student from Research Institute Geisenheim, working with Dr Andrew Clark, 14 Aug - 26 Sep 08.
- Dr Andrew Landers, Cornell University, spray application and vineyard mechanization specialist, visited the NWGIC on 14 Oct 08 and gave 16 seminars to grape growers across Australia. These meetings were jointly organized by Duncan Farquhar, National Extension Manager, SARDI and GWRDC.
- The Winegrowing Futures Program has provided $5,000 to sponsor an International Guest speaker who will present at the 8th International Symposium on Grapevine Physiology and Biotechnology to be held from 23-28 November 2008 in Adelaide.
