What if I have included material that I didn't create (Third party copyright)?
Your thesis will be available on the internet to be freely downloaded. You may have included material created by someone else eg surveys, illustrations, tables and even though you have acknowledged it you still need their permission to make it available for downloading. The (Copyright page) provides information on what is required and an example of a letter to send to the copyright owner. If you do not obtain this permission it is your responsibility to remove it before it is uploaded into CRO.
What if I have included material that is culturally, personally or commercially sensitive?
As with copyrighted material, sensitive material can be removed in the version of the thesis that will be made available for downloading.
What are you signing when you upload your document?
In general you are agreeing that you allow CSU to upload your thesis to make available on the internet and that you retain the copyright to it. You also understand that if there is sensitive material that you don't want downloaded or material created by someone else (third party copyright) you can remove it and upload a second abridged version of the thesis. If you load two versions indicate which one is to be archived by including the word archive in the title of the uploaded document. You will agree to the following on the second screen of the submission process.
License Agreement:
By submitting this form and document, you hereby grant to Charles Sturt University (CSU) or its agents the right to archive your thesis in the CSU Research Output Institutional Repository (CRO).
You also agree to provide it with perpetual, non exclusive, non transferable right to take the necessary preservation actions to keep the deposited item accessible, including but not limited to conversion of the deposited material to other formats and making copies of the deposited material.
You retain ownership of copyright and all other proprietary rights, such as patent rights. You also retain the right to use in future works (such as articles or books) all or part of this thesis or dissertation.
Authenticity Statement:
You certify that the digital copy deposited with the University Library is a direct electronic equivalent of the version of my thesis approved by the University for the award of the degree.
If any third party copyright or where culturally, personally or commercially sensitive material has been removed then a second copy is provided for availability on the internet. You understand that the original, complete copy will be archived on CRO.
Third Party Copyright Statement:
You have either used no third party copyright material, including charts, diagrams, graphs, photographs, maps or text material in my thesis, or you have obtained permission for such material to be included in the digital copy of the thesis. If permission has not been obtained, you have removed the third party copyright material from the digital version that will be made available for downloading on the Internet.
