Higher Degree by Research (HDR) Online Orientation
One of the first steps you need to make and to fulfil part of your probation requirements, is to complete an Online Orientation - this is a self-paced presentation and contains much of the key information you will need to know, including requirements of you as a candidate, tips for creating good supervisor relationships, and information on the range of supportive services available to you as a HDR candidate. This is available for you below and you can return to it at any time throughout your candidature, providing a great reference for information in conjunction with the HDR Information Guide and the My HDR website.
Following the completion of this you are also required to register to attend the HDR Candidate Welcome & Induction. These are live, interactive workshops conducted every six weeks. A variety of speakers will engage you in some practical knowledge and tips of how to best commence your HDR journey. It is recommended that you complete the Online Orientation first as this will provide you with the essentials you need to take full advantage of the building on this knowedge through the interaction with presenters and fellow students.

At the end of the presentation you will be provided with a link to complete a form which will record your completion of this part of your probationary requirement. To ensure the presentation displays correctly on your computer, please ensure you have the latest version of Adobe Flash, and that your internet browser is up to date, as some older browsers may display colours incorrectly, making text difficult to read. As you work your way through the Online Orientation, you can use this 'Checklist' to make note of any areas you require further information, or any questions you may have. You can then use this checklist as a reference during the Welcome and Induction Workshop and follow up on your notes and questions. - To begin the Online Orientation, simply click on "Start Prezi" icon in the centre of the above frame
. - To move forward and back through the presentation, use the forward and back arrows
. - You can also use your mouse to zoom in and out of the presentation at any point, and click on areas within the prezi to view the presentation from that point. For example, if you would like to view "Support", zoom out of the presentation, and click on the word "Support" in the maze, which will take you to that part of the presentation.
- The presentation is best viewed in full screen mode, which you can access by clicking on the
icon. To exit Full Screen mode simply press your Esc key on your keyboard. You will still remain at the same place in the presentation. - Clicking on a hyperlink within the presentation will open a new browser window, taking you to the link's location. If you were in Full Screen mode prior to clicking on the hyperlink, you will need to click on the original browser window you were viewing the presentation in, and then click within the frame above to continue the presentation in full screen mode again.
