Professor Tom LowrieMessage from the Director - Professor Tom Lowrie:

We live in an international context where there is an increased scrutiny into many dimensions of professional practice: how professionals make decisions, the knowledge bases they draw upon to do so and the ways in which research informs their practice on an everyday basis. This focus, alongside an increasing awareness of the need for organisations to invest in their human resource through carefully planned continuing professional development, serves as a basis for RIPPLE.

RIPPLE is multidisciplinary in orientation and acknowledges the range of research approaches and methodologies requisite to quality enquiry into such complex phenomena as professional practice and learning. The membership of RIPPLE is comprised of people from across a range of professional backgrounds with an extensive collective skill base. Additionally, the key research team of the Centre includes high profile members with skills in research and program design and evaluation. We look forward to interacting with you and your organization in addressing this complex, yet rewarding area of endeavour.

Professor Ian GoulterMessage from the Vice Chancellor - Professor Ian Goulter:

Charles Sturt University has a long tradition of excellence in professional education. This tradition is evident in our reputation in both the preparation of graduates and ongoing career development for established professions, and in leadership in the development of new and emerging professions.

This history has provided the University with a deep understanding of current and future needs of the professions.  Such expertise and knowledge forms the basis of the Centre for Research into Professional Practice, Learning and Education (RIPPLE).  This Institute specialises in research and consultancy related to professional development in an environment of rapidly changing expectations for the professions and professional practice in general.

The work of the Insitute, together with the ongoing commitment of Charles Sturt University to professional education, will ensure that the University remains in the forefront of teaching and research related to professional practice.
