A report to the federal government by an independent panel of experts led by Charles Sturt University (CSU) contains positive findings for the early childhood sector. The report, Child Care and Early Education in Australia, was released on Monday 25 January and is based on data collected from parents, children and child care/early education carers and teachers in Wave 1 of the Longitudinal Study of Australian Children (LSAC). Two academics at Charles Sturt University (CSU) will have distinctive roles at the Australian Association for Research In Education (AARE) 2009 International Education Research Conference  in Canberra from Sunday 29 November to Thursday 3 December. Professor Jo-Anne Reid, Professor of Education and Associate-Dean Teacher Education of the CSU Faculty of Education, was elected President of the AARE at its conference last year. Professor Reid will welcome the anticipated 600 conference participants and will lead the Presidential Address with invited past-Presidents.

Professor Sharynne McLeod, from the School of Teacher Education at CSU at Bathurst has been selected by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) as a Diversity Champion for 2009. The funding of a Charles Sturt University (CSU) tender for national research into the implementation of an integrated child care services model confirms the University as a leader in early childhood policy and practice. The $80 000 tender was awarded to researchers Professor Jennifer Sumsion and Ms Frances Press who are based at the School of Teacher Education at Bathurst. They are members of the Research Institute for Professional Practice, Learning and Education (RIPPLE) at CSU, and the tender to complete Phase 1 of the national research proposal was submitted to the Professional Support Coordinators Alliance.
