CSU Signs Memorandum of Understanding for Academic Cooperation

On April 14, 2009, Professor Paul Burnett, on behalf of Charles Sturt University, and Professor Huib de Jong, on behalf of Utrecht University of Applied Sciences, signed a Memorandum of Understanding for Academic Cooperation and an Agreement to Cooperate in Research between the two universities, formalising a lasting collaboration and program of international research conducted, at Charles Sturt University, through the Research Institute for Professional Practice, Learning and Education (RIPPLE).

These agreements for cooperation in academic affairs and research were signed at a ceremony at Utrecht University of Applied Sciences (UUAS) in the Netherlands. Professor Paul Burnett (Charles Sturt University), Professor Mikael Alexandersson (University of Gothenburg, Sweden), Dr. Fia Andersson (University of Stockholm, Sweden) and Professor Huib de Jong (Utrecht University of Applied Sciences) spoke about the international policy and activities of their respective institutions. Professor Stephen Kemmis (Charles Sturt University) gave a brief outline of the international Pedagogy, Education and Praxis (PEP) research collaboration involving researchers in Australia, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Finland and the United Kingdom. Professor Petra Ponte and Dr. Nicolien Montessori of UUAS presented a progress report on one of the empirical projects in the PEP collaboration which is exploring Inclusive and Exclusive Practices in Education.

Honorary Doctorate – Professor Stephen Kemmis

After the signing ceremony was complete, Professor Mikael Alexandersson, Dean of the Faculty of Education, University of Gothenburg announced that Stephen Kemmis was to have the degree of Doctor of Education honoris causa of the University of Gothenburg conferred upon him.
