BOOK: Writing qualitative research on practice
The book ‘Writing qualitative research on practice’, edited by Joy Higgs, Debbie Horsfall and Sandra Grace, has been published. The book explores and celebrates the scholarship and practice of writing qualitative research. It brings together key authors to present research and practice knowledge about the acts and challenges of writing in this field. Members of the Practice in Education, Work, Wellbeing and Society group are participating in producing a book series with Sense Publishers, and this book is the first of five in production.

BOOK: Spaces and places: The NSW rural (teacher) education project
‘Spaces and places: The NSW rural (teacher) education project’, edited by Bill Green, is a joint undertaking of researchers from Charles Sturt University and the University of New England, in partnership with the New South Wales Department of Education and Training. The monograph is a case study of the state of play in rural schooling and teacher education in the first decade of the twenty‐first century.

The book ‘Effective mathematics teaching from teachers’ perspectives: National and cross‐national studies’, edited by Jinfa Cai (University of Delaware, Newark, USA), Gabriele Kaiser (University of Hamburg, Germany), Bob Perry (Charles Sturt University) and Ngai‐Ying Wong (The Chinese University of Hong Kong), has been published. The book represents a cross‐cultural collection of studies to answer the question: What is effective mathematics teaching? The teacher voices and studies included in this book represent many parts of the world, including both Eastern and Western cultural traditions.

The book Understanding and researching professional practice, edited by Bill Green, has been published. The contributors to the book, drawn from fields such as education, allied health, psychology and business, explore different aspects of practice in the professions, professionalism, and research.

BOOK: Teaching and communicating: Reframing professional experiences
The Teaching and communicating book, edited by Robyn Ewing, Tom Lowrie, and Joy Higgs is nearing the final stages of editing. It will address the skills pre-service teacher education students need to make the most of their professional experiences, and will be published by Oxford University Press in late-2009.

Work is underway on the book, Phronesis and professional education, with contributions by Stephen Kemmis, Rob Macklin, Gail Whiteford, Joy Higgs and Bill Green.
