Welcome
Welcome to Charles Sturt University (CSU), and particularly to the research community at CSU.
As a higher degree by research (HDR) candidate, you are about to commence a course of study leading to the highest qualification typically offered by a University. This is an important recognition and indicates the significance of the journey you are about to undertake. This recognition also places a serious expectation on your commitment as a HDR candidate to undertaking original, significant and important new knowledge generation.
At Charles Sturt University we aim to create a supportive environment which assists and supports HDR candidates. The environment is viewed as a candidate-centred process around which support is provided by numerous divisions and individuals including, but not limited to: supervisors, research centres and groups, Schools and Faculties, other HDR candidates, student administration, funding bodies and the Research Office of CSU.
Ultimately we aim to facilitate a positive learning and research experience for HDR candidates, resulting in successful completions. The HDR Guide provides a primary 'portal' through which you can access or be guided to all important information pertaining to the University's structure and processes as they relate to HDR candidates. This information mainly covers rules, regulations and structural issues which govern and support your HDR candidature. In contrast, academic content issues are mainly the purview of your supervisory team and Faculty support structures. In the main, this guide is structured according to the path you will take as a HDR candidate. The guide covers the major issues of responsibilities, funding, candidature, probation, progress, thesis preparation, examination, graduation and publication.
This section of the Research Office website, My HDR, aims to compliment this guide and provide you with greater and more indepth knowledge and provide references, resources and contacts as you travel through your research journey.
We sincerely hope you enjoy the challenges ahead in your research and wish you well in successfully completing your course of study.
