Grant Application Process

  1. Enlist support - contact the Research Office to discuss your project, provide them with the Funding Guidelines and discuss due dates
  2. Understand and Clarify Guidelines - contact the Research Office for clarification on the Guidelines
  3. Discuss eligibility - contact the Research Office to discuss your eligibility for the grant and the potential match between your project and the grant program.
  4. Discuss workload with Head of School - advise the Head of School of your intentions (and your Centre Director if applicable) and discuss workload issues such as time away from work and the potential for time release.
  5. Organise support letters - organise support letters and documentation at the outset as this generally takes some time.
  6. Draft your application and budget - contact the Research Office if you need advice on putting together a budget, particularly in relation to the Competitive Neutrality Levy which may need to be added to your budget. Send completed draft to the Research Office for proof-reading and review. Ask for specific advice and feedback on the project from your colleagues.
  7. Review your draft - use all your feedback to review your application.
  8. Complete Notice to Submit Form (NTS) - Please use the guidelines on how to fill in the form, receive the required signatures and send to the Research Office. For any queries, please contact the Research Office.
  9. Submit completed Application with Support Letters to the Research Office 10 working days prior to the application due date - This allows time for the Research Office to process the application, get a signature from the DVC (Research) if necessary and make sure it gets into the post in time.
  10. When successful, complete the Budget Approval Form (BAF) to allow an account to be created for your project.
