Survey Of Staff ... research active
One of the key elements of the total cost process is administering staff time-use surveys.
In 2011 there is a single two-week survey scheduled, commencing Monday July 18th and ending Sunday July 31st.
DIISR require a response rate of at least 67%. It is crucial that all eligible members of staff participate.
The survey asks researchers to enter on a simple form the time (hours) they spend on teaching, Australian Competitive Grant research, other research, research training and other responsibilities (e.g administration) in a specific (seven day) week.
DIISR requires that each survey be undertaken for two different weeks.
Beginning Monday July 18th 2011, all staff holding Research Only and Teaching and Research positions will be asked to complete the survey, which will be available on-line through the web kiosk.
Detailed instructions on the completion of the survey, which is expected to occupy only a few minutes of your time, will be provided to each eligible staff member.
Data will be collected and maintained in accordance with the information privacy principles that form part of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). It will not be possible to identify any individual from data submitted to the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research (DIISR). Nevertheless, an individual identifier will be retained by survey staff to allow quality assurance to be undertaken by DIISR. The link between individual and identifier is held on a confidential basis by survey staff in Human Resources Systems office only.
This is a government initiative; we are only collecting the data in response to the government's request. The data will not be used in relation to evaluating individual performance or workload issues and will only be used for assessment of overall indirect costs of research.
