Institutional Development Plan

In the Institutional Development Plan [.pdf 278kb], the University commits to ensure the responsible stewardship of physical, human and financial resources and to develop plans and procedures to implement sustainability practice.

The IDP includes specific commitments:

  • to reduce energy use (compared with 2006) by 10% by 2011 and by 25% by 2015;
  • to be greenhouse neutral by 2015;
  • to reduce water use by 25% by 2011;
  • to have 10% of University land used to increase biodiversity by 2011 and 20% by 2015;
  • to achieve a 70% reduction of solid waste by 2014;
  • to increase the fuel efficiency of the vehicle fleet; and
  • to cooperate with communities toward sustainability.

 

Talloires Declaration

In 2007, CSU became a signatory to the Talloires Declaration, an international commitment to environmental sustainability in higher education, signed by over 350 other universities around the world.

Through this Declaration, CSU has committed to take the following actions for incorporating sustainability and environmental literacy into teaching, research, operations and outreach:

  1. Increase awareness of environmentally sustainable development;
  2. Create an institutional culture of sustainability; 
  3. Educate for environmentally responsible citizenship;
  4. Foster environmental literacy for all;
  5. Practice institutional ecology;
  6. Involve all stakeholders;
  7. Collaborate for interdisciplinary approaches;
  8. Enhance capacity for primary and secondary schools;
  9. Broaden service and outreach nationally and internationally; and
  10. Maintain the movement.
