E.C.O.Active Wagga Campus - Weekly Student Garden Activities

E.C.O. Active are a student collective at CSU Wagga who are passionate about having fun in the environment as well as protecting it. In 2011 they applied for a sustainability grant through CSU Green to build an student E.C.O. garden. The garden is a sustainable community hub and is located behind New Res.

Recently a hybrid energy generation system was installed at the garden containing PV cells and a wind turbine. The renewable energy generated is used to power the irrigation system, the rain water tank pump and the lights in the shed when necessary.

The community space at the garden is used for a number of activities including a weekly gardening evening for gardening enthusiasts or inexperienced people who would like to learn more about gardening or are interested in getting involved.

The weekly gardening evening is on at the student E.C.O. garden behind New Res on Tuesdays 4:30 - 5:30 pm.

For more information on activities at the student garden and E.C.O. Active visit: E.C.O. Active Blog Spot

Monthly 'Ride to Uni' Days - Wagga

A chosen Wednesday ('hump day') during the month

CSU Green invites all staff and students at Wagga to join us on our regular monthly Ride to Uni days!

Rides will take place on a chosen Wednesday during each month, so the next rides are scheduled for:

  • Wednesday 23 May 2012
  • Wednesday 27 June 2012
  • Wednesday 25 July 2012

We'll meet at the Premium Coffee Roasters (34 Trail Street) at around 7.30 am for a chat, and those who wish may like to grab a coffee or snack. We'll then head in to Uni in two groups - one for the faster riders, and a second group for those who are less experienced or would just prefer to take it a bit slower.

Everyone is welcome to attend! If you are a novice rider and would like some advice or assistance, please feel free to contact Nicola Smith: csugreen@csu.edu.au

National Tree Planting Days

29th and 30th July 2011, Albury-Wodonga, Bathurst and Wagga Wagga Campuses

CSU Green once again held a series of events to coincide with National Tree Planting Day. The Albury-Wodonga event was a partnership with Slopes to Summit and the Woolshed Thurgoona Landcare Group, and involved around 45 students from the local Trinity College, as well as CSU staff and students. The Bathurst event was also a roaring Tree Planting Day 2011success, with over 50 CSU students and staff turning out to revegetate an area near the new residences (see the photo on the right). The Wagga event was held on a beautiful sunny morning, and saw us plant over 600 plants in the area adjacent to the AFL oval.

Thank you to everyone who helped organise these events, or who attended on the day and made the activities so enjoyable. These events are a great opportunity to get involved and make a noticeable difference to the natural environment of our Campuses!

Students of Sustainability (SoS) Conference

6th - 10th July 2011, Albury-Wodonga Campus

SoS was a five-day camping conference for anyone interested in creating a more ecologically and socially sustainable world.

2011 was the 20th year of this conference, and the first time in over ten years that it was held in a regional area. It was a week full of workshops and forums on a range of nullsustainability topics, demonstrating how theory and practice can be used to make positive social and environmental change.

SoS was organised by students, mostly from the Australian Student Environment Network (ASEN) - for more information, visit their website at www.asen.org.au
