How long will the grant scheme operate?
The scheme will operate for all sessions in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
When can I submit a claim?
You can submit your claim at anytime during a teaching session from the first week of teaching until the final teaching week before examinations. Applications will not be accepted once examinations begin.
Is a copy of the tax invoice acceptable proof ?
Unfortunately no, you must provide the original receipt when making your claim.
When will I receive payment?
Payments will be processed around the middle of each session (week 7/8) to allow residential students to make their claims. Late applications will be processed during exam weeks.
How will the payment be made?
If you have an outstanding debt with CSU at the time of processing your grant will be used to reduce your debt.
If you have no outstanding debt with CSU then we will attempt an EFT funds transfer to your Australian Bank account. Please ensure that your bank account details are current by visiting my.csu. and following links to maintain personal details, otherwise we will credit your CSU account balance.
How will I be contacted?
The week before the grant is processed we will send you an email to confirm the payment. Additional emails will only be sent if there are problems with your claim.
Are continuing students eligible for the grant?
No. Only students commencing their first undergraduate course at CSU and in their first session are eligible.
I completed an undergraduate course at another University, am I still eligible?
Yes.
I purchased my computer overseas or am unable to locate my Tax invoice what do I do?
We will make a decision on a case by case basis. Please email laptop-subsidy@csu.edu.au and explain your circumstances.
Why is the grant only limited to on-campus students?
The scheme is designed to encourage and assist students make the most of accessing university online systems when visiting and studying on campus. Distance students are expected to have access to their own computer facilities when studying remotely, however they can take advantage of the scheme when required to attend compulsory residential schools on campus.
Is the grant available to students at campuses other than those mentioned in the eligibility list ?
Unfortunately no. Only those students that meet the eligibility requirements are entitled to claim the grant. CSU students studying at other campuses including Study centers, International Campuses, TAFEs, Theological colleges etc. are ineligible.
Can I receive the grant before I purchase a laptop ?
No.
I have a laptop computer that was a gift, can I still claim the grant?
Yes you can as long as you can provide a tax invoice that is not more than 1 year old.

I am a distance student, but am studying one subject on-campus, am I eligible for the grant?
Yes, as long as you meet the other criteria you are eligible
Is there a limit to the number of grants available?
CSU reserves the right to stop the grant scheme at any stage so completing the application does not automatically guarantee that the grant will be given even if you meet the eligibility criteria
I am receiving FEE-HELP, am I eligible?
No, only students receiving HECS-HELP, International and Policing students are eligible.
I am a post graduate student am I eliglble?
No, only undergraduate students are eligible.
I am a disadvantaged student who needs to/has just purchased a laptop, yet I don’t qualify for the laptop grant according to the criteria above. What are my options?
If you are classed as a student from one of the 5 main Equity groups and can prove financial hardship, phone the Equity Office on 1300 734 654 or send an email to equity.officer@csu.edu.au . They will consider your circumstances and may be able to assist you. You do not need to complete the laptop grant claim form.
