Research Centres
Institute for Land, Water and Society
In 2005 the University established the Institute for Land Water and Society (ILWS), a research institute representing some 200 environmental and ecological scientists, social researchers and economists. Many of these researchers are recognised internationally and are making important contributions to regional sustainability and conservation.
The Institute was initially formed from the pre-existing Centre for Rural Social Rearch and the Johnstone Centre for Natural Resources and Society. It now has five established discipline groups - Centre for Rural Social Research, Ecology, Human Dimensions of Environmental Management, Water Systems, Economics and Regional Development, and the emerging group of Arts, Culture and Communications.
