Cathy was trained as an entomologist and started her career in the relevant departments of various museums. Her main interest, uniil recently, has been in spiders, particularly their taxonomy and distribution. Within that group, she was very interested in thomisids or crab spiders. Latterly, she was persuaded to look at polydesmid millipedes (paradoxosomatids) in NSW for a PhD. She is interested in their systematics and bioeography and the factors affecting their occurrence.
