The Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture manages the Canberra Churches e-list on behalf of the ACT Churches Council. The list provides notices relating to church, ecumenical, social justice and inter-faith activities and encourages churches to advertise these.
All are warmly invited to contribute notices.
To allow sufficient time for email notices to appear in pew sheet bulletins on Sundays, please ensure that notices are sent to Ms Jessica Nelson jnelson@csu.edu.au by 5:00pm on Wednesday of each week. Notices that are sent after this date may not appear on the following Sunday. Notices should be brief, concise and incorporated in the body of the email.
We currently provide notices to a list of almost two hundred Churches and Christian organisations in the Canberra area. If you are currently involved in the administration of a Church that is not yet recieving these notices and if you would like to recieve them on behalf of your Church, please send an email including your name, Church name and Church administrative email address to jnelson@csu.edu.au.
In an initiative by the ACT Churches Council, the organisers of Christian Religious Education(CRE) would like to invite volunteers to help fill the demand for Ministry in ACT Government Schools.
CALVIN 500
This year marks several important anniversaries: the birth of Charles Darwin 200y ago, the publication of his The Origin of Species 150y ago, and the birth of the French reformer, John Calvin, on 10 July 1509.
To commemorate Calvin's birth, the Reformed Church of Canberra is presenting two lectures by scholar, Dr Noel K. Weeks on Friday, 10 July at the Reformed Church chapel, Rivett Place, Rivett. Time: 7:30-9:00pm.
Dr Weeks will speak on Calvin vs Darwin, and also on Calvin and the New Perspective on Paul.
These are controversial subjects, and Dr Weeks is well qualified to address them. Honorary Lecturer at Sydney and Macquarie universities, he has degrees in zoology, theology and ancient history. For thirty years he taught the history and languages of the ancient near east at the University of Sydney, and has published widely on topics relating to the Bible, the ancient history of the middle east, and Christian approaches to various disciplines.
A brochure detailing the event may be downloaded from www.reformed.org.au, or contact the Reformed Church minister, Rev. Peter Gadsby on 6288 7947.

STRANGE WEATHER GOSPEL CHOIR
2009 MIDYEAR CONCERT - MELODIES FROM HEAVEN
After tackling pop music on national television and enthralling audiences with its refreshing take on Broadway hits in 2008, the versatile Strange Weather Gospel Choir will next fill the James O Fairfax Theatre at the National Gallery of Australia with a program of contemporary gospel music at its first 2009 concert.
Under the musical direction of Kenneth Teoh, Strange Weather will entertain the 25 July audience with songs by Kirk Franklin, Sandi Patti, Richard Smallwood and other popular artists. The contemporary gospel repertoire will be inter-woven with exciting arrangements of several well known African-American spirituals.
The program will include pieces by three separate heavenly ensembles, and pieces by all men and all women groups, as well as numbers by the full choir. It will include something for everyone interested in gospel music and the audience is sure to have its toes tapping and hands clapping, as well as joining in with the singing of some of the heavenly melodies.
Let the sumptuous sounds of the Strange Weather Gospel Choir warm your hearts and souls on a cold winter's night as the singers sing and dance the night away.
With limited seating available and the Choir's previous concerts sold out, early booking is advisable. Tickets are available from the Ticketek Call Centre (132 849), the Ticketek Website (www.ticketek.com) or Ticketek agencies at:
