November Events

arr 2Piano Music Recital by Margaret Legge-Wilkinson

This event will take place at 3 pm on Sunday 29 November 2009 in the Chapel. Costs are $30 for an adult ticket, $20 concession, $15 for students, and admission is free for children under 12 years. All enquiries should be directed to Stephanos Malikedes by telephone on 02 6282 5797 or 0438 189 500.

Acclaimed virtuoso pianist, Margaret Legge-Wilkinson, presents a recital of ground-breaking piano music. Ranging from Liszt's monumental Sonata in B minor [1853] written at the height of his powers, it traverses two of Rachmanioff's sublime and richly textured Preludes to the innovative pointillism of Stockhausen's Klavierstucke VII and IX [1953-61]. Karlheinz Stockhausen, an early pioneer of electrical music, was one of the most influential composers of the 20th century.

Popular Canberra composer and co-Director of Canberra New Music Ensemble, Stephanos Malikedes has composed a set of Preludes for this recital.

In performing the Liszt Sonata, Margaret Legge-Wilkinson pays tribute to one of this country's finest pianists, the late Geoffrey Tozer, who was renowned for his performances of Liszt.

Margaret Legge-Wilkinson is well known to Canberra audiences, performing regularly as soloist and accompanist. She has performed as soloist in Europe and Cyprus. Margaret is featured as pianist and composer on 5 Cds released by Canberra New Music Ensemble. These have been broadcast over ABC-FM and in the Netherlands.
