Abstract

Emergence of a 'conservative commentariat'

This paper will examine the emergence of a 'conservative commentariat' in the 1980s and 1990s in parallel with the rise of a renewed and revitalised political Right within the US, Britain and Australia. In particular the paper will cover first, the rise of punditry in media outlets previously largely devoted to news; and second, the extent to which the voices of the 'conservative commentariat' are associated with newspapers of News Corporation. The particular outlets in question are the Australian , the Times ( UK ) and the Weekly Standard ( USA ).
