Abstract
Australia's press coverage of the Vietnam War
This paper will synthesise key findings in my research of the Australian press coverage of the Vietnam War, 1962-1969 (War and Words: The Australian Press and the Vietnam War. MUP 2007). It will specifically concentrate on the press communication of the Labor opposition during the periods of key policy announcement and the significance of the media's tentative coverage in the late 1960s as it turned to legitimise Labor's position of opposition to the war. The findings of the research have a salience in the reporting of Australia 's participation in the Iraq War since 2001.
