International Experience Program: Korea

School of Biomedical Sciences - Kyunghee University Program

nullCSU students will be involved in pharmacological research with medicinal herbs in a university laboratory under Dr Hyung-Min Kim (Oriental Medical School). Dr. Kim is currently serving as an editor of American Journal of Chinese Medicine and an editor-in-chief of TANG (Traditional Medicine journal). You will experience the lab research and the unique Korean culture. Each student will be matched with a Korean postgraduate student to carry out the research. The Korean students will have to communicate in English.  

The tour will take students to:

  • Kyunghee University Oriental Medical Hospital
  • Pharmaceutical company: Dong-A Pharm. Co., Ltd. (www.donga.co.kr)
  • DMZ (Demilitarized zone between North and South Korea)
  • National Museum of Korea 

The overall aims of the Korea short term program are:

  • Broaden student's awareness of international health issues
  • Expose students to international health research
  • Provide students with a broader understanding of careers in health science
  • Provide students with a personal development opportunity within a supportive learning environment

Program dates: June 17 - June 30, 2012 (2 weeks)

Number of places: 8

Cost: Approx: $2700 (Includes $500 travel grant*)
*The $500 Travel Grant is not awarded directly to students but deducted from the program fee.

Cost includes: international flights in/out of Sydney, travel insurance, home-stay accommodation (breakfast served)

Not included: domestic transport to/from Sydney to meet with the international flights in and out

Note: All CSU Global programs are group ticketed. Your program will depart from Sydney and return to Sydney on the dates listed. Home-stay families are citizens of Seoul and can speak English.

Eligibility: Pharmacy, Biotechnology, Medical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Food and Nutrition and Complementary Medicine students

Credit Arrangements: Bachelor of Forensic Biotechnology and Bachelor of Medical Science/Bachelor of Forensic Biotechnology double degree students will get credit towards the clinical (professional) placement component of the course. This short term program will count towards industry experience for Medical Science and Biotechnology.

Alternatively, students may also enrol in SCI301 International Practical Experience, which may be used as an elective for Pharmacy, Complementary Medicine, Food and Nutrition, Biotechnology or Medical Science (you will need to confirm this with your subject coordinator).

Students may also be able to replace SCI301 with BMS301 (please confirm this with your course coordinator).

  • Bachelor of Medical Science - 2 week clinical placement
  • Bachelor of Forensic Biotechnology - 2 week professional placement
  • Bachelor of Medical Science/Bachelor of Forensic Biotechnology - 2 week clinical placement
  • Bachelor of Pharmacy - complete requirements for SCI301 3rd year elective
