Accommodation:

Lakehead University has several residence options for exchange students ranging from dormitory style to shared house style accommodation.  Students also have the option of fully, partial or self catered options.  Further information is available at http://residence.lakeheadu.ca/

Study Permit/Visa information:

You must have enough money for your total financial support (tuition fees, living expenses) to receive a Temporary Resident Visa and/or Study Permit. Contact the nearest Canadian High Commission, Consulate or Embassy about the financial requirements for international students.  It is YOUR responsibility to obtain your own visa and/or study permit. Health Insurance:

All international students must purchase the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) before they are allowed to register for classes at Lakehead University. This mandatory health insurance package may be purchased from the Office of Graduate and International Studies at the university upon your arrival in Thunder Bay. Please note that even if you are insured in your own country, you must buy UHIP.

Exchange Student support services:

The Lakehead University Student Union offers an arrival assistance program for all students arriving in Thunder Bay. This program usually starts the weekend before classes commence in the Fall and runs until the first day of classes. During this time flights and buses arriving in Thunder Bay are met, and students are transported to the University. Students arriving outside this time period will have to make their own arrangements.
The Office of Graduate and International Studies will organise orientation, (registration assistance, campus tours, employment and immigration information and various social events. A variety of services provide support to all students. These services include personal counseling, and cultural and educational programming.

Approximate expenses for one semester:

 - Room and board (basic single) $8265 CDN (7 months)
 - Health Insurance - UHIP (mandatory University Health Insurance Plan) approx $250 CDN (4months)
 - Books and supplies $500 CDN
 - Ancillary fee $848.00CDN (full-time study load)
