You may purchase health insurance in your home country that meets the requirements of the Office of International Education.
Immunization and Vaccination Requirements
The University of Utah requires all students to show proof of immunity to measles, mumps, and rubella. This is achieved by either knowing the dates of two measles, two mumps, and one rubella vaccination you have had, or having documentation of having the disease or titer (blood test) results.
You will be required to show documentation of immunizations upon arrival. Failure to comply with the university's immunity requirement may result in what is called a 'hold' on your registration which will prevent you from registering for classes. If you have not had these vaccinations or cannot prove you have these vaccinations, you will be required to receive the shots. The cost is US$53 per shot.
International students are also required to have a tuberculosis skin test (PPD) upon arrival at the university if the Student Health Center believes you have been exposed to the disease. The cost of the test is US$9.
In your first week at the university, you will need to go to Level 1 of the Student Health Center, located on campus in the Madsen Clinics Building (555 Foothill Blvd), to show proof of immunizations and to complete a health questionnaire which determines whether you will need the tuberculosis test. Please come prepared to the U.S. with the necessary documentation.
Exchange student support services:
All international students attend International Student Orientation sessions. Orientation will cover immigration rules and regulations, an introduction to student organizations on campus, information on health insurance, and an introduction to Utah and the University of Utah.
The International Centre helps students adjust to living in a new and different environment. Several programs have been developed to help students become acquainted with the community, meet other students and find a welcoming social environment.
