Scholarly Electronic Text and Image Service (SETIS).

Since 1996, the Scholarly Electronic Text and Image Service (SETIS) has made available a large number of full-text literary, philosophical and religious primary source texts in electronic form, along with computers and associated software, to the university community. The service also creates and publishes a large number of sgml-encoded public-domain texts, particularly in Australian literature since the 18th century. This project has potential national significance and has received support from a wide range of institutions beyond the University of Sydney. The texts included will provide a central role in funding efforts for many of the bibliographic and indexing projects being initiated in Australian libraries, as these will be able to link directly to texts in the SETIS database. In turn, each of the SETIS texts will provide external pointers to these bibliographic and biographical resources, creating an information web for all students of Australian literary, historical and cultural life.
