When the Phone Don't Ring, You'll Know It's Me": The Internet, the User, and the Library.
John Lubans will draw on his research of how people are using the Internet for learning purposes. His studies of first year college students and of pre-college students in the 8th-11th grades offer insights into what is happening and what may be happening in the near future. RAISS will be the first venue to hear the results of his most recent study of second semester freshmen in April, 1999. This study probes about what students do on the Internet and how they assess the trustworthiness of sites. Finally, John will discuss his findings about the declining numbers of traditional reference question and what this means for reference. Following his talk, John will facilitate an interactive discussion.
