Jerry
Campbell
Dr. Campbell is the Chief Information Officer and Dean of the University Libraries at the University of Southern California where he arrived in January 1996. Before coming to USC, he served for over a decade as Vice Provost for Library Affairs at Duke University. Beginning in 1989, he also served as Vice Provost for Computing at Duke. Dr. Campbell's formal education includes a Master of Science in Library Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Ph.D. in American History from the University of Denver. In the course of his career, Dr. Campbell has played a leadership role in numerous organisations and agencies. This has included serving as president of the Association of Research Libraries and the Triangle Universities Center for Advanced, Inc. (an advanced studies consortium for Duke University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and North Carolina State University). It has also included serving on the governing boards of numerous agencies such the Research Libraries Group, the Council on Library and Information Resources, the National Institute of Statistical Sciences, the National Humanities Center, and the Digital Library Federation.
Dr. Campbell has contributed articles to books, published numerous articles in journals, and spoken and consulted widely. He has also been active over his career in applying technology to libraries and the dissemination of scholarship. He has served as principle investigator on many projects funded by governmental agencies and private foundations and is currently leading the development of the operating system and database for a massive integrated digital archive intended to document the history of the Los Angeles basin.
Arnold
Hirshon Arnold Hirshon became Director of NELINET (the New England Library Network) in April 1999. NELINET is a library consortium and OCLC network that promotes resource sharing and interlibrary cooperation among more than 500 academic, public, and special libraries.
From 1995 to 1999 Hirshon served as Vice Provost for Information Resources at Lehigh University, where he was responsible for the University libraries, computing, telecommunications, and media services. At Lehigh he led a strategic planning process that integrated the library, computing and communications operations into a single client-oriented organisation. He also instituted Lehigh's charter membership in Internet 2 and initiated a large-scale expansion of electronic library information resources. Hirshon also was a prime leader in the creation of the Pennsylvania Academic Library Consortium, Inc., and he served as the first chair of that organisation's board of directors.
From 1990-1995 Hirshon served as University Librarian at Wright State University. Under his leadership, the University Libraries developed a Web-based integrated electronic access system to all resources, electronic text and imaging projects, and a library customer service program. He was also very active in the development of OhioLINK. Hirshon's substantial publication record includes monographs and numerous book chapters and articles on information technology, libraries, and organisational planning. He is the recipient of the 1998 ALA Hugh Atkinson Memorial Award, which recognises innovation and risk-taking in the management and development of technology in academic libraries.
Neil
McLean Neil McLean is University Librarian at Macquarie University. He has contributed extensively to national and international thinking on the application of information technology to Library and information services through publications, conference papers and representation on external committees. His recent publication, Investment in Information and Knowledge Infrastructure: A Strategic Framework for Australia's Research Enterprise has been the subject of extensive debate in Australia's research community.
He is currently Chair of Standards Australia IT19 Committee, Computer Applications - Information and Document, Chair of the Australian Vice Chancellors' Committee LIDDAS Project Management Board and a member of the Higher Education Advisory Group for Education Network Australia (EdNA). He was also Chair of the ABN Network Management Committee from 1994-1997 and a Member of the NSW Information Technology Committee from 1994-1996. He has been invited recently to be a member of the U.K. Interoperability Focus which is jointly funded by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) of the Higher Education Councils and the British Research and Innovation Centre (BLRIC).
