The Murrumbidgee String Orchestra

The Murrumbidgee String Orchestra (MSO) is a community organisation that meets on Thursdays from 7.30 - 9.00 pm each week during school terms. It is open to anyone who plays violin, viola, cello or double bass and is always interested in hearing from new players.

Upcoming events will include:
  • Performances at Farmers' Markets and Food and Wine Festival
  • A tango workshop
  • A concert performance in Term IV

Since it was formed in June 2000, the MSO has participated in a wide range of musical activities including:
  • Riverina Conservatorium of Music Open Days and Prize Days
  • Farmers' Markets
  • Senior Citizens week events
  • Wagga Art Gallery Openings
  • the Wollundry Singers 25th Anniversary Concert
  • Wollundry Lagoon Amphitheatre Concerts

In June 2001, the MSO initiated a concert at the Riverina Playhouse with Wagga Youth Choir where it performed a work for strings and voices by Daniel Walker commissioned by the MSO and Wagga Youth Choir and in 2002 it undertook a regional tour to Lockhart, Temora and Tumut with Kathleen Robinson (flute) and Michael Stevens (marimba) as soloists.

In addition the MSO has brought the following musicians to Wagga:

  • Canberra School of Music violinist Barbara Gilby for MSO and community string workshops
  • the Tankstream Quartet for workshops in 2003 and 2004
  • Canberra School of Music conductor and double bass player Max McBride for two orchestral workshops
  • composer Daniel Walker for rehearsal supervision of his work "Murrumbidgee - My Home" and vocal workshops
  • early music dance specialist Helga Hill for two workshops on the steps of Renaissance and Baroque dances
