Catherine Holland - Clarinet & Saxophone

Bachelor of Music, Bachelor Teaching

Originally from Hobart, Tasmania, Catherine commenced playing the clarinet at the age of ten. She was fortunate to be taught throughout her school years by Christopher Waller and then Duncan Abercromby of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. Catherine enjoyed playing in ensembles right from the start and she was a member of the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra for a number of years, playing clarinet and viola at different stages.

Catherine studied with Phillip Miechel and Craig Hill of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra during her Bachelor of Music degree course at the University of Melbourne. She completed a Bachelor of Teaching following her music studies and taught classroom and instrumental music at Westbourne Grammar School in Melbourne for nine years prior to moving to Wagga Wagga with her husband, Jonathan, in 2008.

Since moving to Wagga Wagga, Catherine has become involved in many aspects of musical life in Wagga Wagga. She is a member of the Riverina Concert Band and the Murrumbidgee String Orchestra, has played with the Australian Army Band Kapooka and the RCM Concert Orchestra, is establishing herself as a clarinet and saxophone teacher in the Wagga Wagga area, teaches Musicianship at the Riverina Conservatorium and has recently organised a series of free lunch hour concerts in down town locations featuring RCM staff and associates. Catherine was appointed to the RCM Board in September 2009.

Catherine's non-musical interests include crochet, gardening, orienteering and enjoying the outdoors.
