Academic Skills Development - SSS002
Description
This subject assists in developing the knowledge and skills of students in the areas of academic reading and writing, with a focus on essay writing as essay writing is a common form of assessment at tertiary level. The underlying skills, however, will equip you well for all forms of academic writing.
Topics include: critical thinking, research skills, effective reading and note-making, academic writing style, essay writing, referencing, and other forms of academic writing.
SSS002 is an online subject. This means the teaching is delivered to you via the internet. Students will receive the subject outline booklet in the mail which explains how to log on to access the subject materials. You will however, have access to the subject as soon as it appears in your ‘my subjects' box in ‘my.csu'. For those who prefer to work with a hard copy a pdf has been created for each of the six modules. Students who do not have online access and a printer should speak with the subject coordinator to make alternative arrangements. The subject is self-paced and requires approximately 13-20 hours to complete.
Please note: The last offering of this subject will be Trimester 3A 2009 (session 201003). This subject will be replaced by Writing at University (SSS022) in 2010.
