How to Apply

Thank you for your interest in Summer Session at Charles Sturt University (CSU).

Please carefully read the instructions below on how to apply.

When you apply for Summer session study you will be classified as one of these student types and descriptions of these are below when you click on the links:

Information about Examintation Centres is at the bottom of the page, please read this carefully before applying/enrolling.

Closing dates:

New and Prospective Students

(students who have never studied at Charles Sturt University (CSU) before and Cross Institutional Students). You can apply via a paper application or via our online admissions office. Instructions are below.

Paper Applications:

There are three (3) forms under the 'Summer Session' heading to fill out, click here to download.

  1. Application for Admission form
    Print this off and be sure to fill in all sections of this form noting in particular the following important sections:
    • In section 2 of the form, write 'OLIS' as the four (4) digit code, in the course name section. In the strand box write the subject code(s) (3 letters and 3 numbers) and name of the subject(s) you wish to study. Also in section 2 of the form write the examination centre that is closest to you (see section on examination centres as above).
    • Where the subject has a pre-requisite listed you must supply evidence of meeting those previous study requirements on section 9 of the form.
    • If you are enrolling in a postgraduate subject, you should enclose with your application form a certified copy of the academic transcript(s), award(s) for your previous undergraduate study.
  2. Summer Session payment/remittance form - (fees must be paid on application)
  3. Student ID form

Once completed post all documents to the address in the table at the bottom of the page by the due date.

Cross Institutional Applications:

> Domestic Students
Please download the admissions forms from (1) above. In the course name box write 'CROSS INSTITUTIONAL STUDY' and then fill in the names of the subject that you want to study in the subjects box. You will need to prove completion of pre-requisites as above, attach this documentation to your application if required.

You will also need to supply with your application:
> A statement from your home institution stating that you are a current student at that institution and that you have permission to do Cross Institutional Study and count the subjects towards your award course.

> A confirmation Commonwealth Assistance Notice (CAN) dated after the census date of the previous session of study you undertook, which includes your CHESSN and your FEE-HELP or HECS-HELP status. Please note: The student contribution amount is set by the host provider and need not be equal to the student contribution amount that would have been incurred had the unit of study been undertaken at the home provider. (For more information please go to: www.goingtouni.gov.au).

> International Students
Please download the admissions forms from (1) above. In the course name box write 'CROSS INSTITUTIONAL STUDY' and then fill in the names of the subject that you want to study in the subjects box. You will need to prove completion of pre-requisites as above, attach this documentation to your application if required. Please note that fees will apply for your subjects.

You need to also fill in the Supplementary form and return that with the application.

You will also need to supply with your application:

Past/previous Students

(students who have previously studied at CSU but are not currently in an Award course)

Current Students

(students who are currently in an award course at CSU)

If you are currently at CSU studying in an Award course* you can enrol in Summer session subjects online. You need to search the Summer website for the subjects that are applicable to your course and then enrol online**.

You will need your regular CSU login and password to access the site.

International students need to enrol in Distance mode for Summer as the Offshore Tutorial (OT) mode is not available over Summer.#

# If you are an international student and your address is an offshore address for Summer your package will be couriered to you. If you are a domestic/commonwealth supported student studying your Summer subject/s overseas your pack will be posted to you via air mail, but you can request it to be couriered to you overseas at your cost, if you email lmcdespatch@csu.edu.au. (The cost is determined by the courier company). You need to do this before the 30th October 2009. Your account will be billed for the cost.

* An Award course is a course that leads to a degree on completion (Bachelor, Graduate Diploma or Certificate or a Masters courses). Associate and complementary Study or Studylink courses are not considered to be award courses and you must apply as a 'past/previous' student if you are studying in these programs.

** The subjects you study during the Summer session must be core or elective subjects for your course. If they are superfluous to your course requirements you may be required to pay fees for the subjects. You should check with your Liaison Officer if you require more information.

Examination Centres

Some subjects have examinations and therefore you may need to nominate an examination centre on your enrolment form or application.

If your Summer subject has an exam (you can check this in the subject listing) and you are studying on your Summer break away from your normal address you will need to let us know where you want to sit your exam. You can do this by emailing your Liaison Officer via the link below.

Please note also that if you need to change your nominated examination centre after the 4th of January 2010, a $25 fee is required. No changes will be accepted after Friday 15th January 2010.
