Frequently Asked Questions

How many subjects can I do?
The maximum number of subjects you may enrol in is two (2) over Summer session.

How much does it cost per subject?
Please refer to the fees page of the website. It should be noted that these fees are based on one subject worth eight (8) credit points. If the subject you are wanting to enrol in is worth sixteen (16) points then you have to pay double the subject fees.

Summer consists of fee paying places and Commonwealth Assisted places. More details can be found on the fees page of the website. This will also guide you in working out your HECS bands if they are applicable.

If I am an Offshore International Student, how can I study in Summer Session?
Yes, you can study in Summer session. Please refer to the Subject listing page for each faculty. You can enrol online if you are a current student, or apply as a new/previous student. See the application page for more details. Your learning materials will be couriered to you*.

* If you are an international student and your address is an offshore address for Summer your package will be couriered to you. If you are a domestic/commonwealth supported student studying your Summer subject/s overseas your pack will be posted to you via air mail, but you can request it to be couriered to you overseas at your cost, if you email lmcdespatch@csu.edu.au. (The cost is determined by the courier company). You need to do this before the 30th October 2009. Your account will be billed for the cost.

An International refund policy will apply to you also. (Please refer to the refund policy.)


If I am an Onshore International Student, can I study in Summer Session?
Yes you can study over Summer . If you are a current student in an award course then you can enrol into Summer subjects online. If you are not a current student you need to put in an application to study over Summer. More details can be found on the 'Application' page of the website. *

Can I study as a Cross Institutional Student over Summer?
Yes you can, please refer to the Application page for more details.

What is the closing date for new applications?
On time applications close on the 1st November 2009. We will accept late applicaitons until the 13th November 2009 via the Admissions Office. APPLICATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED.

What is the closing date for adding subjects online for Current students?
27th November 2009.

What happens after I’ve applied?
Once we have received your application form/s and fee or you have enrolled online if you are a current student, this information will be entered on the student enrolment system. Mail packages will be dispatched during November.

What if I am already undertaking study at a tertiary level?
Subjects studied in Summer Session are equivalent to undergraduate and postgraduate subjects studied during other sessions at the University. You may be able to apply for credit for these studies at your own University.

When do I receive my study pack?
Mail packages will be dispatched during November.

If you are an international student living outside of Australia your package will be couriered to you in due course. If you are an international/domestic student, residing in Australia but studying your Summer subject/s overseas you will have to option to have your pack couriered to you instead of by the usual method of Air Mail. This can be arranged at your cost, if you email lmcdespatch@csu.edu.au. (The cost is determined by the courier company). You need to do this before the 30th October 2009. Your account will be billed for the cost

What if I don’t complete all my assessment tasks?
It is up to you to decide how many of the assessment tasks you complete. To be given a passing grade or better in the subject you will need to satisfactorily complete all the assessment items. The requirements that you need are outlined in the subject outline for each subject you enrol in.

If you wish to withdraw from all or part of your enrolment, you must notify Student Administration in writing (email, fax or letter) and you will need to check the important dates for Summer session and the Refund policies. (Please refer to the refund policy.)

What happens over the Christmas period?
The University is closed for the period between 12.30pm, 24th December 2009 and 4th January 2010.

Where do I take my examinations?
If the subject you have chosen to study has an examination, please nominate a preferred examination centre from the list provided on your registration form. Examinations for Summer Session will be held during the examination week in February. (1-5 February 2010).

Please note that this examination centre may be different to the examination centre you normally attend and you may need to advise Student Administration. For more information please see the Application page of this website.

Will I receive my results?
Notification of results will be mailed to your e-box, and a transcript will be posted to your mailing address. If you are in an award course, your results will be available on your online transcript.

Do I require access to the Internet?
Some subjects have online support available and to use this you will need access to the Internet. This requires a computer and the appropriate software, a modem and a standard telephone connection to an Internet Service provider or to CSU itself. Additional information is available. What does this online support mean?
In addition to the printed learning resources sent to you in the mail, you will be able to use the Internet to:

Some subjects are fully online. What does this mean?
Apart from the subject outline, a printed copy of which is sent to you in the mail, all other learning resources for a fully online subject will be delivered to you through the Internet. You will therefore, need appropriate Internet access in order to study a fully online subject successfully. Details about the equipment requirements are provided by clicking here. It is your responsibility to ensure that your computer is compatible with University requirements and that you have access to an appropriate Internet Service Provider (ISP). All charges for Internet access are your responsibility.

Can I withdraw at any time and receive a refund?
Please refer to the refund policy page.

Can I defer my studies or take leave of absence?
Enrolment in these programs is subject specific and deferment/leave is not applicable. Leave of absence is only available to students in their normal pattern of enrolment in their award course.

Do I need an ID card?
All current CSU students have an ID card.

Students who have not studied previously with CSU will need to apply for an ID card by returning a completed ID Card Form, which is sent out with your offer pack with a passport sized colour photo attached.

Previous/past Summer students will need to apply for a new identification (ID) card. You need to fill in the ID Card Form with a passport sized colour photo attached.
