“During the course of my studies I learned the Emergency Management career field was broad in nature and full in opportunity. I learned how to research, write papers, and apply my knowledge to my current field. All assignments were completed within the scope of my community and work environment and applied directly to my current field. The course has provided me with the skills, knowledge, ability and confidence to pursue the academic aspects of my field/career while contributing to my organisational goals.” - Pader Bracht
“I highly recommend pursuing the Bachelor of Emergency Management at Charles Sturt University. Despite my training and experience as a Paramedic, Helitack Firefighter, Aviation Assistant, and Reserve Constable Police Officer, I have yet to find a single pursuit that provides the same advantages as studying at Charles Sturt University. I was drawn to the international aspect of taking this course through Australia. After phoning the Course Coordinator with questions and concerns regarding my ability to complete the course I was comforted in the knowledge that I could try an individual subject before committing to the entire degree. This low pressure approach and minimal initial commitment allowed me to consider my options and subsequently enrol in the full course.

Considering my studies have been via distance education it was fantastic meeting my Course Coordinator Ian Manock at the International Emergency Managers Conference in Toronto, Canada.
I highly recommend the EMG program at CSU to anyone/everyone considering pursuing a field related to emergency/disaster management.
It’s been a challenge to fit study into my life, especially when working 14 hour days, volunteering, working, and trying to fit a relationship in between. My studies have certainly caught the attention of my supervisors, thereby contributing to my career success and promotional opportunities. Unfortunately, the more I get promoted… the more responsibility I have at work… so finding the time to fit study into my life becomes even more challenging. My current success in my career reminds me that finishing what I started at CSU will pay dividends in the long run… so that’s what I aim to do.”
“I chose to study through CSU for the recognition for previous studies, transfer of credits from other universities and institutes of higher education and the option of distance education, which allowed me to continue my full-time employment while advancing my education. I chose courses of study that were in keeping with my current career as well as my interests for further education in associated fields that were now being recognised as areas of study.
Some of the advantages of DE study are that it allows someone who travels as part of their job to undertake studies they might not otherwise have the opportunity to, and those who work shift-work or have a full-time, daytime, career can continue their educational studies while meeting their work life commitments. Distance education means more flexible hours of study, as you set up your own routine.
CSU has a wide variety of educational programs that could meet the needs of most who choose to further their education.
CSU staff are very supportive, encouraging and understanding of the student who pursues their studies by distance education.”
