The Graduate Certificate in Commerce consists of four postgraduate level subjects chosen from the Faculty of Business. You can choose the four elective subjects that best suit your career needs from around 80 different options. You will be able to select between generic and specific skills relevant to your professional needs and the organisational needs of your business or industry. This involvement in continuous learning and the maintenance of a lifelong committment to professional development will not only open doors in your chosen vocation but also provide you with the confidence to boldly step through those doors towards achieving your goals.
Study at your own pace
The Graduate Certificate has been designed so that you can study at a pace which suits you. You can take either one or two subjects per trimester. Normally, a student studying part-time, undertaking two subjects per trimester will complete the program within eight months. This acceleration of learning enables students to instantly apply their knowledge and skills in their own work environment, and graduate with a Graduate Certificate in Commerce more quickly, giving them a competitive edge in their industry. Our experience shows that while two subjects is the normal rate of progress, one subject may be more appropriate for some students because of work pressures and/or family commitments.
This course is offered on a trimester basis, with sessions commencing in:
- January
- May
- September
It is recommended that students allow for 10-15 hours of study per week, per subject.
Preparing your pathway to the MBA
If you will be completing the Graduate Certificate in Commerce as your pathway to the MBA, you should be strategic in your subject choice. All subjects in the Graduate Certificate are applicable to the MBA in one form or another. They may be equivalent to a core subject, part of the foundation set or an elective subject. We do however recommend that you complete certain subjects to broaden your options once you start on the MBA. Completion of these subjects will provide you with credit for three of the core subjects in the MBA and one foundation subject.
We can advise you on which subjects will best prepare you for entry into the MBA.
