Koori Admissions program (KAP)

The Koori Admissions Program (KAP) at Charles Sturt University offers an alternative Admissions Program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people interested in going to university.

What KAP offers

Operated by the Indigenous Support Unit at CSU, KAP offers students the opportunity to stay at the University for a few days to attend classes to learn some skills essential to success at university, find out about university life and meet staff in a supportive and caring environment. You will be tested on some of the skills you are taught and this will be the basis of a possible offer of enrolment in a course of your choice.

Who attends KAP?

Mature age Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and recent school leavers are encouraged to attend. If you are considering changing employment or you would like to achieve higher education qualifications to increase your employment opportunities, then KAP could be suitable for you. KAP allows the Indigenous Support Units to assess your level of skill and, if successful, to offer you a place in a course at CSU.

When is KAP offered?

The Indigenous Support Units offer KAP placements twice a year. In 2009, it is likely that KAP will be offered in September, and again in early December. The September offering is targeted to mature-age people, and the December offering targets recent school leavers.

Costs

There are no fees to attend KAP. Your travel and accommodation costs are funded by the Department of Education, Science and Training.

Applications

Applications close the middle of August each year for September KAP, and the first week in November each year for the December KAP.
