"Engaging in postgraduate studies has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

"Distance education gives me the opportunity to study from home and the online forums provide a great way to share ideas with other students.

"I encourage anyone interested in pursuing a career in midwifery to consider this one-year postgraduate degree. It’s lots of work and long hours, but it’s not hard when you’re doing what you love."

"I was unsure of what to expect prior to commencing study at CSU, particularly considering I was studying by distance education. But the experience was overwhelmingly positive and now 18 months after finishing my degree, I find my work very rewarding. No two days are the same, whether it be working with women during pregnancy, labour or postnatal care, or with premature babies, the variety is constantly stimulating and rewarding. I am still building my clinical skills as a new midwife but my time at CSU has prepared me well for my current role.

"Study by distance education provides you with week to week freedom. There are no regular lectures or tutorials. It is possible to live your life and regulate your study and learning so that the two are integrated and you don’t have that feeling of being controlled by study. The learning materials were great, but of particular note should be the study support. I was overwhelmed when I began the course, but the support from the academics was outstanding. The ability to email my lecturers directly and know that I would receive a personalised reply was of such great educational value but also helped to give me confidence in my ability to succeed in the course.

"Both of my residential schools were fantastic but also intense. My most memorable experience was returning for the second residential school and meeting up with the rest of my classmates. We found that despite not physically seeing each other regularly on campus, our communication through the online forums and our common experiences had bound us together as friends.

"I would love to get into student education for nurses and plan to do my Masters.

"Before commencing study at CSU, I was finding my work as a medical/surgical nurse monotonous and unrewarding. The opportunity arose to become a student midwife and engage in further study and I haven’t looked back since."
